The Power Pony
A round-up of why this high fashion hairstyle is putting the classic ponytail to shame.
No pain, no gain, the tighter… the sexier. The power pony has become the quickest and easiest way to achieve a racy and effortless look. As a second lockdown hits the UK, it’s upsetting to watch salons close their doors once again. Nevertheless, CrozNest is here to remind you that hair does not always need to be perfectly washed and blow-dried to look flawless.
On the Runway
British fashion designer, Ashley Williams worked with an editorial hairstylist, Kota Suizu in her latest ss21 collection. In the collection, Williams takes girly garments and mixes an innocent silhouette with sex and rebellion. Using hair Suizi communicated Williams vision, refashioning a pony which relates to the message behind the collection. The only thing being held back in this collection is the hair… Zero bumps and not a stray hair in sight.
Hardworking Ladies need stress-free glamour. Remember, you’re adaptable, and your client’s hair can be too. It doesn’t matter if it holds an excess of product or you need a quick fix following an idea that didn’t manifest, the greasier the better!
Alongside the fake facelift, minimal effort required, and off duty model vibes, at CrozNest we love how this hot hairdo has become identifiable with female empowerment. In the 90s Madonna rocked an iconic hairpiece in her Blonde Ambition music video which has since been reinvented by stars like Ariana Grande, Bella Hadid and the Kardashian and Hailey Bieber rocked a barbie inspired look at last year’s MET gala. She appeared in a flirty pink dress to compliment her a super slick, flicked out pony. And of course, the high ponytail is Ariana Grande’s trademark. Celebrities aren’t the industries only influence. Runway fashion and editorial hair have allowed the power pony craze to continue as well.
In the Salon
To mimic this hairdo with your clients, grab a boar bristle brush and scrape all the hair into a super tight pony. If the cheekbones are popping, you’ve hit the jackpot. To set any flyways use a pomade or gel and some quality hairspray. Ouai Matte Pomade is CrozNest approved as and has won an award with Harper’s Bazaar 150 Beauty Must-Haves: Sublime Stylers: Piecey Texture. For a unique touch, we’ve spotted a few extra trending tricks. A cute silk scrunchie can create a playful twist, combining glam with girly.

Alternatively, for a red carpet, sophisticated look, take the pony to the next level with a wraparound. Take a small section of hair from the ponytail and twist it around the hair bobble. Next, pin it down with a bobby pin and seal with hairspray. Boss up, bubble up. For an attitude complete finish, every few inches add another hair tie into the pony and work your way down, pinching and pulling between each elastic.
Whilst root touch-ups and a cut and blow-dry may be on standby for the next few weeks, we are having fun with ponytails. Flick it, wrap it, braid it, plait it. Women are raising the bobble and the standards in 2020. Female empowerment is here to stay and at CrozNest we are excited to watch how hair and fashion support this movement. Brains over beauty… Who says we can’t have both?
