Long hair is dominating the runway for 2021!
Fashion shows have always been notorious for sharp cuts and avant-garde styling but on the 2021 catwalks, we’ve seen models demonstrated a more habitual, lengthy style. To embrace natural grown out hair, stylists have emphasised untamed and gentle styles.
Long locks have always been desirable for many women. Covid-19 has generally transformed the attitude towards the hair, fashion and beauty. Conforming to a more relaxed and imperfect aesthetic. As well as braids, wet looks and fringes; Rapunzel hair has been a noteworthy hairdo across 2021 collections.
In true Vetements style, Guram Gvasalia thought outside the box once again and adopted a unique addition to the ready-to-wear fall 2021 collection. Typically houses only publish front profile shots of each look. But across the 165 looks, some models faced backwards, whilst other womenswear looks created the illusion of a back profile, where consequently eyes are drawn to smooth long hair. The show was a reflection of “the hell we’re all living through”. The backdrops, garments and slogan t-shirts have unpinned suggestions towards the house’s societal and political notions as a result of Covid-19. The collection is interesting for a number of reasons, but we couldn’t bypass the effortlessly long hair that was emphasised throughout a number of the looks.
The Valentino SS21 couture collection stole the show for this particular hairstyle. Pierpaolo showcased an honourable collection. Simple silhouettes were met with bright pops of colour and paired with skyscraper metallic heeled boots. The collection displayed womenswear and menswear with a revolutionary genderless twist. Hairstylist Guido Palau explains long extensions were used to create the majority of the hairstyles for men and women. Extensions were used to create sophisticated and graceful straight styles as well as beautiful braids. Many designers are focusing on garments to create androgynous fashions. Pierpaolo has employed extremely lengthy hair for both genders to bridge the gap. The male models embraced hair identical to the females. So much so the model’s gender could be indistinguishable at first glance.
In line with an eccentric summer, we are all hopeful for, long and flowing hair is looking like a promising trend. In SS21 ready-to-wear collections for Raf Simons, Celine, Coach and Ashley Williams designers paired their garments with girly, yet effortless long hair. Undoubtedly everyone is looking forward to salons reopening. However, maybe we can expect clients to desire shorter trims and more advice on growth products. Men and women have been forced to embraced lengthy, untamed styles. The mentality has also become more free-spirited. Natural hairdos could coincide with the worlds new outlook.
