Tap into the flapper-inspired trend that is circulating on the catwalk this season. Finger waves are the perfect way to achieve a chic and elegant look for your clients this season which exudes confidence and glamour.
Beach waves have been outshone this season as stylists behind the catwalks have opted for a more polished look, taking a modern twist on the classic finger waves. The hair phenomenon of the roaring twenties is back, as stylists get creative, embracing this Hollywood chic hairstyle.
On the Runway
The finger wave trend was hot on the fall 2020 ready-to-wear runways. Erdem and Dolce and Gabbana caught our attention with their finger waves that offered a cool and contemporary vibe. A fall favourite on the runway at Erdem’s show was super shiny and sleek waves, finished elegantly with a single bobby pin. Erdem took their finger wave innovation even further. S-waves were moulded into cropped bobs and finished with a silver metallic colour.
Although Dolce & Gabbana favoured a range of hairstyles, finger waves made the cut! Across the houses 121 looks, at their fall 2020 show, the high-shine, perfectly sculpted finger waves were a statement style that couldn’t go unnoticed.
S/S21 season is the perfect time for stylists tap into and get creative with this high drama look. The perfect hairdo for any client embracing their inner confidence while making a New Year – New You!, statement. The style is perfect for clients with an event or editorial shoots. Finger waves were once often just worn flat against the head, now stylists have experimented with finger waves for every length. For short hair, opt for subtle and sectioned finger waves. Set neat waves into place on wet hair with gel or mousse and a fine-toothed comb and your most important tool will be waving clips, which you can pick up at Session Kit. We recommend using the John Frieda Frizz-East Curl Reviver Mousse on wet hair, creating curls with the fine-tooth comb and setting in place with a hairdryer and hairspray.
For long hair, focusing on the top section of the head and letting the rest of the hair naturally fall is perfect for an editorial look. Additionally, retro waves can also be created with a curling iron. Section the hair from the bottom upwards, curling each row in an opposite direction and setting in place with pins. We love the Schwarzkopf got2b GluedBlasted Freeze Spray hairspray for setting long and short hair that will last all day.
